On September 6th and 7th, the military council conducted airstrikes and artillery attacks in Tigyaing Township, Sagaing Region, under the pretext of providing security for their naval vessels traveling along the Ayeyarwady River. According to the Tigyaing Revolution (TR) group, these attacks resulted in the deaths of 11 civilians and left several others injured. The attacks were not part of any active combat but were deliberate strikes targeting civilian areas.
The casualties were distributed across several villages: five civilians from Maungkone village, one from Kyawmaw village, three from Bokone village, and two from Wegyi (Chun) village were killed in these attacks. Local sources emphasized that these were not casualties from active fighting but rather resulted from indiscriminate attacks on civilian settlements. The military’s actions have been characterized as deliberate targeting of civilian areas rather than engagement with any opposing forces.
Furthermore, local reconnaissance groups have reported that the military council is currently preparing to launch new offensive operations in areas around Tigyaing Township and along the border regions between Sagaing Region and Kachin State. These military preparations have caused significant concern among local residents, with some being forced to flee their homes to seek safety. The situation continues to deteriorate as the military increases its presence and aggressive actions in the region, leading to growing humanitarian concerns for the civilian population.
