In Nyaung Hla Gyi Township, Mandalay Region, a battle between advancing military council forces and resistance forces resulted in the death of 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of weapons and ammunition, according to the People’s Defense Force (PDF) of Nyaung Hla Gyi Township. The military council troops, including soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members, had been advancing from Myingyan city in Mandalay Region since early August.
After advancing for 20 days, the military council forces reached Man Lan village in Nyaung Hla Gyi Township on August 18. On August 20, they engaged in combat with revolutionary forces, resulting in 10 military council soldiers being killed and 8 others seriously wounded. During the battle, resistance forces seized various weapons and equipment from the deceased soldiers, including two MA-11 rifles, one anti-drone weapon, one rifle-launched grenade, three hand grenades, one Starlink satellite internet device, some cash, two ammunition boxes, and various rounds of ammunition, according to the PDF’s statement.
Following the battle, the military council forces, having suffered significant casualties, retreated from Nyaung Hla Gyi Township, and currently, there are no military operations in the township. Some displaced civilians have begun returning to their homes. The operation was carried out through joint efforts between the Nyaung Hla Gyi Township PDF and battalion forces from Myingyan District.
However, the PDF warns that civilians must remain particularly vigilant against the threat of airstrikes. Although the military council forces have retreated from the ground after suffering casualties, they may still conduct aerial attacks. The PDF information officer emphasized that people need to maintain constant vigilance and should evacuate to safe locations if military columns advance into their areas again.
