MYANMAR- Bangladesh Authorities stated that the fishing boats strayed into Myanmar territorial waters were fired by the naval vessel, killing 1 and arresting dozens of Bangladeshi fishermen.
On October 9, at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, six Bangladeshi fishing boats strayed into Myanmar waters near St. Martin’s Island, Nat River mouth. Burmese Navy attacked the fishing boats later,
the 60-year-old Bangladeshi fisherman was reportedly killed and 57 others were arrested.
“We urge the Burmese military to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from happening again,” Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a diplomatic protest over the incident.
After the protest of the Bangladeshi Coastal Guard Force, the Myanmar military reportedly released the fishermen and another fisherman was reportedly injured due to the Myanmar Navy firing.
The Bangladesh spokespersons stated that due to the very strong current, the fishing boats had reached Myanmar’s territory.
