YANGON DIVISION – The terrorist junta council abducted three young men from Ba Htoo Housings in Dagon Myothit (North) while checking guest registration on January 26 evening, according to residents.
Around 10:30 p.m. on January 26, junta forces raided Ba Htoo Housings to check guest registration then abducted three young men between 18 and 35. It is said that the young men were abducted, not because they were not registered, but to be forcibly conscripted.
“At first, we only heard that it was not because of guest registration. We only found out from the administration office this morning (January 27) that there was a conscription list and that they had also shared political posts on their phones. They raided yesterday with a large number of forces. The young men were handcuffed,” said a resident.
Moreover, it is reported that the streets of Yangon are deserted past 7 p.m. as most young people fled after the junta council enacted the civilian conscription act on January 23 and also started openly collecting the data of women for conscription.
“Now there are summons sent to both men and women for military service. People became afraid after the announcement of the law saying everyone will have to serve in the military. Before, there are still people out in the streets till 9 p.m. but now the streets are empty by 7. Young people also don’t go out much. Only bars and nightclubs that have a relationship with the junta council still have a crowd. Ordinary citizens don’t really go out after 7,” said a taxi driver from Yangon.
The civilian conscription act enacted on January 23 by the terrorist junta council stated that anyone including women, men, Non-CDM employees and those in employment will have to serve in the military.
