MANDALAY DIVISION – The junta council fired heavy artillery at Sakyin Village in Madaya Township, injuring three civilians and damaging a pagoda, a monastery and some houses, according to the residents.
The attack reportedly happened at 10:15 a.m. on January 26.
“There was a battle around 3 a.m. We heard gunshots. But our village was attacked even though there was no battle. The artillery attack happened at 10:15 a.m. The attack was from the junta council. Two shells landed in Dakhinayon Monastery at the south end of the village. Mr. Kalar was hit in the stomach by shrapnel while Mr. Naing Phyo Thu and Mr. The Maung also received light injuries. The pagoda was damaged as well as the monastery and some houses,” said a resident of Sakyin Village.
Sakyin Village is a village of sculptors and has around 3,000 households. It is said that the junta council forces from Mwayudain Village fired heavy artillery at Sakyin Village and currently, the residents are said to be fleeing to safety.
