SAGAING DIVISION – The terrorist junta council gate at the entrance of Ye-U, Sagaing Division, is demanding 10,000 kyats from the people who were entering to shop in the town, and the junta forces there are also sexually harassing the women,” said the People’s Defense Comrade Information Officer Htoo Khant Zaw (Amaethar).
Starting from 2024, the terrorist army gates at the entrance and exit of Ye-U arrested and extorted the people who came to shop from the villages, and dragged away and seized the purchased items. Around the end of the year, the terrorist army threatened them to pay 10,000 kyats, saying it was a toll for passing through the city.
When the young women from the villages came for shopping, the soldiers of the terrorist junta council would sexually harass them. Even though the young women were treated like that, they did not dare to complain because they were afraid of being arrested and prosecuted by the junta council.
In addition, if women from villages where the terrorist army and the revolutionary forces are fighting come to shop, the soldiers of the junta council would arrest them for no reason and commit sexual assaults. The arrested women had to be redeemed by their family members with ransom money.
“The junta dogs (junta forces) are demanding 10,000 Kyats as a toll to pass through the from the people from the villages going to shop in Ye-U. They are asking at their gates. In the past years, the gates of the junta dogs have been doing things like confiscating goods and extorting money from the people who came back from shopping, but now they are blatantly asking money from all the people passing through. In addition, the women who came to shop at the market were also harassed verbally. But they didn’t dare to say anything back as they are afraid of getting arrested by the junta dogs. In addition, if the women from the villages where there was fighting with the revolutionary forces came to the market, the junta dogs would arrest them for no reason and assault them sexually. When the women are arrested, they are released only after paying good bail and ransom,” said Ye U-based People’s Defense Comrade Information Officer Htoo Khant Zaw (Amaethar).
