AYEYAWADDY DIVISION- Locals reported that in Aung San Ward, Ngathaing Chaung Town, the terrorist army and the former administrators are collecting money from the people fleeing from the war in Rakhine State.
Due to the fighting in Rakhine State, the administrator Naung Naung of Aung San Ward, is forcibly collecting hundreds of thousands of kyats from refugees who fled the war in Ngathaing Chaung Town. People who can’t pay are not allowed to live in the town. It is reported that junta-appointed administrator Naung Naung is doing this in cooperation with the soldiers of the Military Council.
In addition, the administrator (Mr.) Naung Naung has been extorting 20,000 Kyats per month from the homes of young men eligible for military service and sometimes forcibly arresting young men as recruitment for military service.
Since becoming the administrator, Mr. Naung Naung has become a wealthy man, built a house, and rides a variety of motorcycles and cars.
“The administrator Naung Naung of Aung San War is the one who has been extorting hundreds of thousands of kyats from war refugees in Rakhine. Those who cannot afford to pay are not allowed to live in town. He also collected twenty thousand kyats from every household having a male between the ages of 18 and 35 and doubles if there were two men eligible for military service.
He became rich after becoming an administrator. He has been extorting money from the neighborhood to buy a good motorcycle, and a car over a few months,” said a local.
Currently, hundreds of people fleeing the war from the Rakhine arrived at Ngathaing Chaung Town.
