BAGO DIVISION – A man who was abducted and forcibly conscripted by the junta council in Paukkhaung Township was beaten to death in the army, reported a Bago Region news source.
On January 10 midnight, junta forces abducted three men from Wailuwun Village near Taungzinwa on the Pyay-Paukkhaung Road in Paukkhaung Township, Pyay District. One of the three managed to escape while another was released due to losing eyesight in one of his eyes. The remaining one, one the other hand, was taken to the army recruitment center in Pyay.
Then on January 16, his family was told to come and collect his body as he had died in recruitment regiment 14 in Pyay. Thus the family went to collect the body and buried it on January 17.
“Out of the three abducted, one managed to escape. Another one was released by the army as he couldn’t see in one of his eyes. The last one was reportedly beaten to death because he refused to serve in the army,” said the local news source.
The man killed by the junta army was said to be a father of two from Wailuwun Village. He was a hard labourer and was older than the 18-35 age range set by the junta council for conscription.
The junta council has been abducting and forcibly conscripting young people at large in Pyay District to fulfill the conscription quota.
