MYANMAR – A local news source reported that six civilians including a monk and two children were killed in the junta council’s bombing of Khampat Town in Tamu District, Sagaing Division.
A junta fighter jet attacked the town at least three times around 8:30 p.m. on January 16, bombing the residential wards and monasteries. Six people including a monk and two children were killed and multiple people were injured but the exact details are not known yet as the attacked took place at night.
Khampat is part of Tamu Township and was captured by the People’s Defence Force (PDF) on November 7, 2023.
Similarly, the terrorist junta council is reported to have bombed four villages in Kyaukgu, Yaksauk Township of Shan State while the fighting continues to intensify in the region.
From the morning till night on January 16, revolutionary forces and junta forces were locked in fierce battle in Kyaukgu Area and the junta air force bombed four villages.
Due to the junta airstrikes that afternoon, there were damages to houses in the villages of Htaminpaung, Kyaukmiekhat, Khaekyar and Lwalhaung and it is still being investigated if there were any civilian casualties.
“The fighting is still intense at Kyaukgu of Yaksauk Township. The junta council has been bombing and firing heavy weapons continuously. They mainly targeted and bombed Htaminpaung Village, Kyaukmiekhat Village, Khaekyar Village and Lwalhaung Village. The sounds of gunfire could be heard into the night. We can’t confirm yet if there were any civilian casualties. The (junta) plane has been bombing the whole day. The damages could be major,” said a resident.
The terrorist junta forces from Yaksauk that went to reinforce Kyaukgu clashed against the Danu People Liberation Army (DPLA) on January 14 and junta artillery strikes damaged two religious buildings and 15 houses. On January 15 as well, a civilian was injured by junta artillery fire.
