MYANMAR – Locals reported that the junta army bombarded with its military aircraft on Pekon Town, bordering Karenni and Shan states.
On January 12, at around 11:30 a.m., the junta’s military aircrafts dropped bombs, including 500-pound bombs, two times, near La Ei Village, causing no casualties.
“The junta dropped bombs, including 500-pound bombs. There were large craters at the incident places. There were no casualties. Since it was daytime, we were able to evacuate in time as soon as we heard the sound of the planes. The place where the bombs landed was outside the village,” the military source said.
Similarly, on the morning of January 11, the military junta bombed residential areas and a market in Kyauktaw Town, Rakhine State, killing at least 8 people, according to local residents.
A local resident who visited the hospital said, “There are about eight fatalities. We don’t know exactly. It could be more. There are about 20 injured. I think the authorities will announce it.”
Kyauktaw is one of the townships where telecommunications and internet services have been banned.
Kyauktaw is a township controlled by the Arakan Army (AA), and the military council has carried out deliberate aerial bombings without any fighting.
The AA also reported that Kyauktaw was bombed, and that the junta army dropped about 15 bombs, and that it will release a list of casualties.
Similarly, at 1:00 p.m., on January 8, 41 civilians were killed and 27 injured in a bomb attack on Kyauk Ni Maw Village in Ramree Township, Rakhine State, and 398 houses were burned down.
The aerial bombings of the atrocious junta army in Rakhine State are cowardly acts and flagrantly committing war crimes, said Mr. Khaing Thukha, spokesman for the Arakan Army (AA).
“Targeting innocent civilians in a place where there is no fighting is a very heinous and cowardly act of military junta and flagrantly committing war crimes,” he said.
