MAGWAY DIVISION – According to the People’s Defense Forces – Yaysagyo township, a policeman under the junta council defected from the city police station in Pauk with weapons and ammunition on January 10th.
It is said that the policeman Aye Chan Aung joined the revolutionary forces while he was on duty at the Pauk Police Station and took refuge on January 10th.
People’s Defense Force – Yaysagyo township’s News and Information Officer said that they were able to take him on January 10th by closely monitoring the area closest to the police station since January 9th and connecting with local groups.
The policeman, who has been a policeman since 2015 and has about 10 years of service, said that he had wanted to defect for the past 1 year, but he got the opportunity to joined and sought refuge.
“He also said that there are misunderstandings between the police and the military among them. There are some who are being bullied by the junta council’s soldiers. There are more and more such people who don’t want to carry out their duty and defect,” the information officer added to the policeman’s statement.
He said that he was given a reward of 3 million Kyats because he came with a G3 rifle, a cartridge and 90 G3 bullets and he was kept in a safe place because he wanted to live peacefully according to the police consent.
From the time of the military coup until January 11th this year, there have been a total of 10 policemen and junta council’s soldiers who have defected to the People’s Defense Forces of Yaysagyo township, according to the group.
