MYANMAR – Several military sources and resident civilians reported that the junta council abducted and forcibly conscripted some young people in Pyin Oo Lwin of Mandalay Division as the number of drafted soldiers for this month’s batch of conscription doesn’t meet the required quota.
Around 10 a.m. on January 9, junta forces were reported to have flagged down around ten young men on motorbikes at the Pyin Oo Lwin Station Intersection, put the motorcycles on their car and abducted the young men, telling them they have been drafted. The family members of the young men were also reportedly contacted and told that the young men have been conscripted.
In addition, several young men were similarly abducted and forcibly conscripted at the Zay Lay traffic lights in Pyin Oo Lwin around 12 noon that day.
Similarly, in Pantanaw of Ayeyarwaddy Division, a father of three was said to have been abducted and forcibly conscripted by junta forces.
On December 29, the ward administration officer and terrorist junta forces abducted a father of three living at Yadanarpon 4th Street in western Pantanaw at his home and he was not released even though his wife went and begged the administration officer for his release.
“The administration officer and junta dogs (junta forces) reportedly abducted a family man from Yadanarpon 4th Street in western Pantanaw, Ayeyarwaddy Division, saying he has been drafted. They have three young children. The husband was drafted and the wife went and begged the administration officer because the children are still young but it was futile,” said a resident.
It is said that the junta council has been abducting and forcibly conscripting people across the country as they cannot meet the required number of soldiers to be drafted for the most recent batch 9 of military conscription.
