BAGO DIVISION- According to a person close to the prison community, authorities in Kyaikzakaw Prison, Daikoo town reportedly feed the inmates with rice and bean curries containing soda powder every day, which causes stomach and intestinal diseases.
It is reported that the prison authorities in Daik Oo, Kyaikzakaw prison add soda (powder) to the rice and bean curries that are fed to the inmates. Due to having those meals, some prisoners already suffered from stomach and intestinal diseases, and others could also develop symptoms.
In addition, the prison clinic does not have adequate medicines and if an outbreak or a disease occurs, the lives of the prisoners will be at risk.
” The rice served to the prisoners contained baking soda. Moreover, soda powder is added to curries such as bean curd. When you eat a lot of sodas, your health is impaired. Baking soda has adverse effects on the stomach and intestines. Some people are suffering stomach upset. The lives of the inmates are at risk since there were not enough medicines at prison clinic. This action, of adding baking soda in meals, is like making the inmates suffering diseases and slowly shortening their lifespans,” said a person close to the prisoners’ community.
A source in the prison said that the prison authorities did not respond when asked why the rice and curry served to the inmates were cooked with soda powder.
